Summary of Position

The Vice President of Corporate Communications & Investor relations will work closely with the executive team to establish and implement a successful Corporate Communication and Investor Relations strategy that articulates and supports the Company’s business and scientific objectives to the investment community and other external audiences including the scientific community.  He/she will manage all external communications, internal scientific communications and public affairs including media and public relations (news and editorial coverage, white papers, press releases and articles); financial communications, strategic executive communications; crisis communications; and Company website communications. He/she will also act as a Company spokesperson, promoting, enhancing, and projecting the organization’s vision, brand and reputation to external stakeholders, with a primary focus on analysts and investors and build new and manage existing relationships with the investment community and other outside influencers. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement an annual investor relations program to ensure a consistent, timely flow of information about MacroGenics to the financial and investment communities and Company shareholders.  Establish and maintain excellent relations with institutional investors, key retail investors and analysts.
  • Develop and implement strategies and programs to keep the financial community current on Company performance and industry trends.  Understand the technology, drugs and business strategy sufficiently to identify issues and effectively communicate with investors
  • Lead the process of preparing analysis and key messages for all external communications including earnings and other press releases, Annual Report, as well as other meetings and events and manage the timely disclosure of all material information to shareholders and the financial community.
  • Plan, coordinate and participate in road shows, investor conferences, one on one meetings, and conference calls with senior management, investors and analysts.
  • Support Finance and Legal in developing finance-related investor communications and filings (e.g. quarterly earnings calls, 10-K etc.)
  • Collaborate with external investor relations agencies to monitor analyst coverage and investment research on the Company and competitors, as well as the broader industry.
  • Serve as primary person to handle incoming inquiries from the media and investors.
  • Establish strong internal relationships and effective communication with supporting business, scientific, and medical leadership within the organization.  Collaborate with senior leadership and functional heads, such as HR, Clinical and Medical Affairs, R & D, Commercial, General Counsel, and others to support and assist with their internal and external communications needs when appropriate.
  • Manage the Company’s corporate communications via the website, social media channels, etc. Update and continuously improve the corporate website and social media efforts ensuring that key messages and communications are consistent.
  • Direct operation of all key Corporate Communications functions, including concept development, writing/editing, production and distribution; and manages external agencies.
  • Serve as the Company’s media spokesperson.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Credentials

An advanced degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related science field

 

Experience

  • Fifteen (15) years of professional level experience with a minimum of eight (8) years of experience in investor relations, corporate communications and related areas
  • At least 5 years of investor relations and corporate communications’ experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry
  • Demonstrated experience and leadership in managing a comprehensive strategic communications programs to advance the organizations vision, mission, values, and strategic objectives
  • Prior experience effectively communicating scientific concepts
  • Prior experience supporting internal and employee communications in collaboration with human resources
  • Experience within a public Company
  • Experience supporting a multi-product pipeline
  • Past experience working at both the strategic and tactical level
  • Experience with, and a working knowledge of, SEC disclosure requirements, shareholder/analysts communications practices, and preparing investment presentations
  • Proven experience with key influencers among both sell-side and buy-side analysts/portfolio managers

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills including creating and delivering impactful presentations and the ability to influence internal and external audiences
  • Product communications expertise (ranging from disease awareness, through Phase 3 data announcements, FDA advisory meetings and FDA market clearance)
  • The ability to develop strategies and goals that recognize scientific/business issues, opportunities, and environment
  • Creative and strategic self-starter with the proven ability to develop and execute plans in both a timely and effective manner
  • Must thrive working in a fast-paced, innovative environment while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful and efficient
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop important relationships with key stakeholders
  • Ability to analyze complex issues to develop relevant and realistic plans, programs and recommendations
  • Able to communicate complex issues in a simple way and to orchestrate plans to resolve issues and mitigate risks
  • The ability to work cooperatively with others; the genuine desire to be a part of a team and contribute to organizational and team goals
  • Working knowledge of FDA and EMA regulations; familiarity with drug industry reimbursement; and a good understanding of public policy challenges currently affecting the healthcare industry
  • An action-oriented thinker, with a track record for translating strategic thinking into reputation enhancing communication initiatives
  • Attention to detail and the ability to work individually and proactively, within a multi-disciplinary team, as well as with external partners and vendors
  • Solid understanding of financial markets, including equity research or buy-side (within healthcare or biotech/pharma focused fund)
  • Strong financial acumen and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated team player with a strong work ethic
  • Takes initiative and has ability to effectively navigate ambiguity and manage diverse stakeholder groups
  • Knowledge of financial and media communications in the biotechnology industry
  • Ability to travel approximately 25%

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior IR/PR agency experience a plus
  • Strong understanding of biotech industry and relevant regulations
