Summary of Position

The Intern will be working in the Antibody Engineering Department of MacroGenics, implementing bioinformatics tools to facilitate the development of therapeutic antibodies.


Responsibilities and Job Duties

  • Write scripts to design primers for site-directed mutagenesis and for the generation of combinatorial antibody libraries.
  • Develop user-friendly and interactive visualization tools to align antibody sequences, highlight structural properties of amino acids (e.g. buried and solvent-exposed amino acids, amino acids at the interface of antibody heavy and light chains, sequence motifs with manufacturing liabilities), and analyze the ‘humanness’ of antibodies.


Minimum Qualifications


Education, Certifications & Experience

  • Undergraduate rising sophomores, juniors, or seniors and graduate students in accredited universities
  • Must be pursuing a degree in Computational Biology or Bioinformatics
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong programming skills including biology-relevant scripting languages (Perl/Python/C++)
  • Basic knowledge of bioinformatic tools (BioPerl, Blast, Clustal)
  • Experience in writing Microsoft Excel/VBA macros


Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of molecular biology and immunology

**This is a paid internship program for the summer of 2018. This position is not eligible for housing or travel reimbursement and is not open for immigration sponsorship.**
